I could see myself doing hair 50 years from now and still being happy and passionate.”

From an early age, she was exposed to the magic of transformation, thanks to her grandparents who attended cosmetology school. “My grandma and grandpa attended cosmetology school, so I grew up constantly getting my hair done and being put together. Whether it’s styling my baby dolls or playing in my grandma’s wigs, beauty has always been a part of my life.”

If it wasn’t for my teachers being as encouraging and genuine as they are to push us in the best way, I don’t think I’d be as confident as I am now. With that confidence, I believe I will stand out from the crowd.”

Simone’s enthusiasm for learning and pushing her limits is infectious. She thrives on the “why” in the beauty industry, always seeking to understand the science and art behind every technique. “I love vivid colors and cutting, taking someone’s imagination and turning it into something they can show off and express themselves even more with just a simple color and cut makes the whole process worth it,” she shares. “I love learning the ‘why’ in this industry is what pushes me. Yes, I can cut hair, but why does holding the hair at different angles cause the hair to lay a certain way? I don’t want to just ‘do it.’ I want to fully understand so I can do my best at giving the client what they want.”

Confidence is an invaluable asset for anyone in the beauty industry. Simone emphasizes that building confidence is as crucial as mastering the technical aspects of the trade. “In the industry, you need not only work hard, but you also need good self-esteem,” she notes. “This industry will make you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing, and you’re not always going to have someone telling you that you did good. You need confidence and understand that as long as you put everything you know into it, you did your best.”

Outside of her education, Simone’s interests naturally gravitate toward creative activities. “My hobbies outside of school are painting and dancing,” she reveals. “So I’m just naturally drawn to creative activities, and doing hair is just another way I can express my creativity.”
